Privacy Policy

Tutorai is a free, personalized AI tutoring service for K-12 students. We built it to be private by default: there are no accounts, no sign-up, and we do not ask for or store names, emails, photos, or any other information that identifies you. This policy explains exactly what happens to the small amount of data the service does handle.

The short version

  • There are no accounts and no profiles. We never ask who you are.
  • Your progress, settings, and mastery data stay on your own device in your browser. We never receive them.
  • When you chat with the tutor, your message is sent to our AI provider to generate a reply and is not stored afterward.
  • We collect anonymous, non-identifying usage counts to understand which features help students learn.
  • We do not sell data, show ads, or use third-party advertising trackers.

Data stored on your device

As you use Tutorai, your grade level, theme and font preferences, lesson progress, and skill-mastery estimates are saved in your browser's local storage on your device. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to us. You can erase all of it at any time from Settings → Clear All My Data, or by clearing your browser storage for this site.

Chatting with the AI tutor

When you send a message to the tutor, that message and the lesson context are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, which generates the tutor's reply. We do not save your messages or the replies on our servers after the reply is returned to you. Please avoid typing personal information (such as your full name, address, school, or phone number) into the chat — the tutor does not need it and you should never share it.

Keeping the service available

To prevent abuse and keep the tutor free for everyone, our server applies rate limiting. To do this it creates a temporary, one-way hashed value derived from your network address and browser type. This value is held only briefly in memory to count recent requests and is discarded automatically; it is not a stored identifier, is not linked to any profile, and is not used to track you.

Anonymous usage analytics

We collect anonymous, aggregate usage events — for example, that a lesson was started or a hint was viewed — so we can see which features are working. These events are stripped of anything that looks like personal information before they are recorded, and they are not tied to any individual. We do not build user profiles or track you across other websites.

Third parties we use

  • Anthropic — processes chat messages to generate the tutor's replies.
  • Vercel — hosts the site and its serverless functions.

These providers process data only to deliver the service and under their own privacy terms.

Children's privacy (COPPA)

Tutorai is designed for K-12 students and is built to collect no personal information from children. Because there are no accounts and no personal data is requested or stored, the service does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. If you believe a child has somehow provided personal information through the chat, contact us and we will help remove it.

Your choices

  • Clear all on-device data anytime from Settings.
  • Use the service without ever entering personal information — it is not required.
  • Stop using the service to stop all data processing.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the service handles data, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above.
